VAT amendment Act 2008
The
Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India
has approved the amendment in the Punjab Value
Added Tax Act, 2008 to the Union Territory of
Chandigarh
The
salient amendment is the facilitation of Summary
assessment at the option of the dealers pending
Sales assessment cases prior December 14, 2005
i.e. before VAT came into existence. The rules
and conditions for deemed assessment would be
framed by the Administration at the earliest.
In
addition to above, another significant amendment
is enabling the collection of VAT on sale of
Petroleum products at first stage itself.

Chandigarh
exempts VAT on "Agarbatti"
The
Chandigarh Administration has exempted the incense
sticks used mostly for religious purposes like
agarbatti and dhupbatti from 4 per cent Value
Added Tax in UT Chandigarh.
Amendments
have been made in Schedule "A" and
"B" of the Punjab Value Added Tax
Act, 2005.
